Being a business owner myself, I am always looking for that business that
stands out from the rest, the small independent business. The ones that do
their job & do it right. With this in mind, I wanted to have a way to
support these people & to say thank you for doing an excellent job - Those
that are outstanding in their field, which I've found are usually out
standing there, alone. Large corporations are making the smaller businesses
obsolete. Small businesses employ over 80 % of the people in this country.
Artisans & a craftsmen and women are slowly being devalued.
Mens' grooming is a dying art. There are less than 12,667 barbers left in
the state of Texas. My career as a barber has been very rewarding. My
license was issued by Norris of Houston, the first mens' styling and blow
drying shop, 70's style, here in Houston. Norris Womack had a barber school
for many years here. I was fortunate to be trained by 2 men that really knew
their stuff. Norris may have taught at his school in it's early days, but
that was before my training there.
My recommendations here are small independent businesses I have used,
recommend or enjoyed their talent. Right now they are few, but I hope to add
more as I find them.
If you choose to support these businesses, I would greatly appreciate any
feedback, positive or negative.
Independent businesses are the backbone of this country and of our economy -
Support us as much as you can ...
- Robin Duncan, Owner/Barber

Joel Sandel ~ joelsandel.com
My admiration for Joels work is hard to describe. Stage fright is a very real thing for me. My role as backstage support has been much more rewarding! I have had the pleasure to do some of the most awesome creative things with Joels' hair. At times it's been very challenging! From musicals to childrens shows to Macbeth, Joel's talent is a pleasure to watch. I am always amazed when I see him perform. It has stretched my imagination but the finished product of his character is always right on the money. Joel can be seen performing around town.

Geekgenius Enterprises ~ get.geekgenius.com
After years of searching for someone to build a small businees website, I finally found a company that built two fantastic websites for me & continues to keep my site up to date. He services my computer as well. I would recommend Geekgenius to any small business looking for a web desinger or any type of computer related issues. He's excellent with all my computer needs from troubleshooting, to renewing my domains, and rebuilding my entire system. Michael has by far been the best geek I've had! He makes housecalls too!

Keith Dalhover Designs ~ www.kdalhover.com
Keith is probably the most dynamic person I know. We have had a business relationship for over 12 years & I've seen him go thru some incredible phases in his life. Selling real estate, managing a restaurant to being a personal trainer. The tranformations in his life have been very diverse. He is now an interior designer. Together we have given my studio a facelift! Working with a rented space & small budget, we have transformed my studio into quite a Bohemian Funk/Chic showplace. I wanted the shop to still reflect my personality and style and with Keiths talent, my shop looks fabulous! You may go to either of our sites to see before & after photos - Thank You so much Keith, the colours actually work together ;o}
